Community Outreach

Port Houston is committed to continued engagement with the many communities surrounding the Houston Ship Channel. We believe in contributing to the quality of life in our local area and continue to develop meaningful partnerships with our various external stakeholders.

In October 2015, the Port Commission approved a Community Engagement Plan that provided a framework for Port Houston to effectively engage and support local communities while efficiently leveraging and optimally utilizing resources.

With this in mind, special efforts have been made to further cultivate productive relationships with identified communities and stakeholders that help support our mission to move the world and drive regional prosperity.

  • Port Houston strives to increase public awareness about the port and its role in the regional economy. In order to advance these endeavors, individuals and groups can take a free tour of the Houston Ship Channel on the M/V Sam Houston; schools and other organizations can also request a speaker to hear more about Port Houston and the Port of Houston.
  • Chairman Janiece Longoria created the Chairman’s Citizens Advisory Council to provide an open line of communication between communities in and around the Port of Houston and the Port Commission. Additionally, community members can provide feedback to Port Houston leadership and staff by calling the Community Information Line at 713-670-1000, filling out the online feedback form or e-mailing communityrelations@poha.com.
  • The organization also invests in the local community through various volunteer efforts and financial or in-kind sponsorships that support the long-term success of the port, its future workforce, the environment, and the overall community. External organizations interested in support may review our sponsorship guidelines and submit a formal request, or they can contact the Community Relations and Events department at 713-670-2805.

We are committed to being a responsible neighbor and community member in the region, and maintaining that commitment is an important part of our success as a port.
