Port Houston Recognized as Top Ranked Special District for Financial Transparency

Port Houston was acknowledged as a top ranked special district in terms of online financial transparency in a report issued by the Texas Public Interest Research Group (Texas PIRG) in April 2017.

The report analyzed 79 special districts across the country and noted that three of the top seven districts were from the state of Texas, including Port Houston, North Texas Tollway Authority and Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County. These government entities have established user-friendly websites.

Port Houston participates in the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts’ Transparency Stars Program, which recognizes local governments for going above and beyond in their transparency efforts and entails a number or requirements.

“It is exciting to be recognized by Texas PIRG for this achievement. Transparency is a top priority for our organization,” said Ray Yi, senior director of treasury for Port Houston. “We post financial documents and other information to help the public better understand how funds are being invested in people and infrastructure to facilitate commerce and contribute to economic development.”
