The annual “Dredging Your Docks” conference sponsored by Chris Ransome and Associates was held Nov. 2 at Brady’s Landing restaurant. The seminar was developed to provide an opportunity for industry professionals to learn about and raise awareness for maintenance dredging in ports and harbors. More than 100 maritime industry professionals attended the workshop.

Topics discussed during the half-day event included the regulatory permitting process, the use of LiDAR technology for facility management, hydrographic survey technologies and current channel navigation issues. Port Authority Project Manager David Casebeer reviewed capacity creation through beneficial use of new work dredged material in the Houston Ship Channel, while PHA Permits and License Administrator Jackie Munoz gave a port update on dredging projects.

“The Port has participated in the ‘Dredging Your Docks’ program for many years,” Casebeer said, “and we want to do our part as the local sponsor of the Houston Ship Channel to emphasize the importance of routine dredging at private docks in order to facilitate commerce and maintain safe navigation.”
